The Future Mrs Blue publishes stories that refuse to sit still.

We are looking for voice before we are looking for genre. A story that knows exactly what it sounds like, even if it doesn't know what shelf it belongs on. We're drawn to work that slips between categories, that borrows from horror without becoming horror, that reads like memoir until it doesn't, that turns a familiar form inside out. If a piece makes us ask "wait, what is this," that's usually a good sign.

What we want, above all, is imagination. Not novelty for its own sake, but the sense that a writer followed a strange idea all the way to the end and trusted us to follow along. Sentences with a pulse. Structures that earn their weirdness. Characters who feel like they exist somewhere just out of frame, doing things we didn't get permission to watch.

Every story we publish is also recorded for our podcast, read aloud and released alongside the printed edition. We think good voice on the page tends to have good voice out loud too, and we want to give these stories a second life in sound.

We publish new and established writers alike. We're less interested in your credentials than in what you sent us.
